Children will play with anything. Give them a pot and they are entertained for hours. That's why choosing children's bedroom furniture is crucial: you want to them to find some kind of fun in their bedroom, but also keep it practical enough for the abuse it will surely receive. Here are some guidelines on what to look for and what to steer clear of when it comes to children's bedroom furniture.

The first thing to do is look forward into the future. Is the furniture going to last until they are a teenager? It's one thing to change a children's area rug or switch up the night-lights; it's a whole other thing to completely redo the teen's bedroom because they've simply outgrown the furniture. A teenager probably doesn't want a dresser shaped like a frog forever, no matter how cute it is. Stick to standard pieces made of durable hardwood or engineered wood. They will outlast the adolescent years and may even be usable enough for when they move out of the house.

On the other hand, you don't necessarily want severity. A child has a wonderful imagination; letting them choose certain colors or pieces may be a good way to bond. It is, after all, their room-allow them to join in the decision making process, especially with smaller items like lamps and home accessories such as dresser hardware. Bright, colorful motifs are great when your kid is still a kid, but remember, they will grow up and grow out of it. Beds in natural or darker finishes will transition nicely from child to teen.

Study lofts are also a resourceful piece of furniture, as the dual function of the bed and built-in desk save space. Desks with hutches attached are another way to save desk and dresser space, while armoires and bookcase headboards are also clever ways of storing your child's stuff.
